GSAN-SERF-Connectivity in Brain Imaging
GSAN Student Experimental Research Forum (SERF) is back for 2015!
In this first forum of the year, we will be discussing…
Connectivity in Brain Imaging
When: Monday, January 26th, 2015 at 18h00.
Where: Thomson House, Room 404gsan
Our featured speakers:
Sebastien Dery: Expert in coherence analysis
Soheila Samiee: Creator of Dynamic Phase-Amplitude Coupling Technique
Free food and drinks will be provided, as per our tradition!
How are SERFs like?
Whether you are looking to extend your research, or simply want to learn something new, you’ll be able to find something at our student forums. All the discussion will take place in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, led by our student speakers. To top it all off, it’s a great reason to enjoy some free refreshments and snacks at Thompson House!
Why do we host SERFs?
We hope to create an accessible space for idea exchange between IPN students. Learning about new fields and techniques can be difficult without an entry point, and SERFs aim to make that process easier by facilitating peer-to-peer discussion.
(Plus, it’s always a great way to meet new friends in the program!)
Got any research you want to share?
Please come to this upcoming SERF, so you can join the discussion and tell us your ideas! Alternatively, you can send any questions and comments to vpacademicgsan@gmail.com.

Survey on the living conditions of Quebec students
The deadline (April 25, 2014) is approaching to participate in the Fédération étudiante universitaire du Québec (FEUQ) survey on living conditions of students. Your participation will allow for a real portrait of the situations faced by students in Quebec regarding, for example, their sources of funding, their incomes, their debt situation, and their studies-family balance. Participation will also give you a chance to win a MacBook Air 13’’ and an Apple iPad.

GSAN Research Symposium 2014 – Abstract Voting details
Over the next two weeks, you will have a chance to read and select which abstracts you would like to see presented at the GSAN research symposium on Friday May 23rd.
There are two pdf documents (see link below) containing abstracts in the Cellular & Molecular and Systems Neuroscience categories (there are ten abstracts in each section, which are arranged in alphabetical order based on title). Author names and affiliations have been removed to reduce bias in voting.
Abstract voting is open from Monday April 14th to Monday April 28th. Don’t miss your chance to have a voice in what topics/presentations are included in the research symposium!
Once you have read the abstracts, please follow the links below to make your selections among the Cellular & Molecular and/or Systems Neuroscience abstracts. There are ten abstracts in each section and you will be instructed to select the top four. A ranking of 1 will assign 5 points to an abstract, 2 will assign 3 points, 3 will assign 2 points, 4 will assign 1 point, and being unranked will not assign any points. The four presenters selected for each section will be those with the highest number of overall points.

To ensure the fairness of results, you will have to provide your name and McGill email, but individual selections will not be disclosed outside of the GSAN VP Academic and two Academic Officers.
Also, please inform us (via the voting survey) whether you plan to attend the symposium, so we can prepare appropriately for the number of attendees.
If you have any questions about the voting procedure please email vpacademicgsan@gmail.com or check out the GSAN website http://gsaneuro.com/
